How to Reduce Test Anxiety. Before Test Day.

You may not know the secrets to battling your high school’s social scene. You may not even know what your goals after high school are. But one thing you can learn is how to have a stress-free test experience. With these action steps, you will significantly reduce your test anxiety and become a pro at test taking.

 

  • Get a good night’s rest

 

I can’t stress enough the importance of getting a good night’s rest. Don’t walk into a test feeling exhausted and sleepy. Your body will focus on staying awake rather than all of the awesome knowledge you’ve recently learned. Like your phone, your body needs to be recharged in order to perform at its best.

  • Don’t cram! Take time to study.

Tempting as it may be, it’s a mistake to wait until the last minute to take a crack at studying.  Give yourself time to absorb all of the information that will be on the test. You want to make sure you can confidently relay back what you learned on a test of any format. Cramming robs your brain of the time necessary to fully comprehend and retain information.

 

  • Exercising can work wonders.

 

I know. You’re probably thinking, “What does exercise have to do with test taking?”  But just hear me out. When you exercise, there is a release of body tension and anxiety. Your body can get rid of the extra energy that can cause you to be jumpy and nervous on your test day. During the week of your test, take a few minutes a day to do some cardio exercises that will release tension and any anxious feelings.
